A Closer Look 2023-10-18: SKYW in Regional Airlines

SKYW/Skywest Airlines has been defying the gravity pulling down its Regional Airlines competitors - though it fell today, -6.1%, its worst decline in 7 months.

Will it trace the same decline as the others, or will it lift its brethren? Perhaps it isn’t affected by rising energy costs like the others. (Without knowing the answer, we know the answer.)

Below is one way to give context to this situation. The Regional Airlines have all been suffering, while SKYW has not. But it had its worst day today 2023-10-18 since March 15, 2023 and energy prices are rising (as noted in this post the Energy industry is rated Strong and as noted in this post Independent Oil & Gas had a strong week).

This is not a short recommendation. If I were to short a stock it would be a stock rated Weakest in a weakening sub-industry. However, it seems more likely that SKYW would be impacted negatively by its sub-industry than somehow SKYW would lift its competition.
